Housing is the crisis of our generation, and it has been spreading. It started in the big cities and it is spilling over to everywhere around them. Fortunately we already have solutions, and many of them are easy.

One easy solution is to make it easier to build. Many restrictions exist simply to be bypassed with a request. Removing these will make housing supply grow rapidly and as a result housing will become more affordable.

We cannot ignore bad behavior by landlords either and we must protect our renters. Housing supply would help this somewhat but it is not enough and we must establish better renter protections so that we are not exploited.

At the core of Mebane’s appeal is our charming downtown, and at the core of that are our fantastic local businesses. Local businesses are how we support each other. They keep our wealth in our community and allow it to cycle through it and keep it growing and thriving.

Small businesses thrive in walkable dense cities where you can reach them with ease. Large national businesses which often out compete them thrive in the opposite environment by pushing things further apart with massive low value parking lots.

I will broadly support inclusive mixed use zoning initiatives and road designs that favor pedestrians while continuing to facilitate necessary vehicle transit.

Civic engagement and especially responsible civic engagement are at an all time low. Less people care about their government and understand how it impacts them and this becomes more and more common the more local you get.

In my time in office I will actively seek out ways to engage the disengaged to make sure Mebane is a city that serves the interests of all of us. I will also seek out methods to make sure the people who are getting engaged get the resources so they can understand all they need to understand to be responsibly engaged.

Mebane is a small town but it is a growing one, and it has grown past the ability to operate without good data and metrics to understand what we are doing well and where resources are needed.

I will actively look to implement policies in all our departments to make sure we are expending resources in the best ways we can so that we can deliver services that help us all to thrive as a community.
